Keeping the Doctor Away...

It’s Friday and our only worry is if we are having red or white tonight. The new year is in full swing and the energy is flowing. This week’s #FreshFriday brings you up to speed on what’s happening in the wellness world as we dive deeper into the new year. Cool Beauty Bites (The Newsette)

Winter may have you reaching for your moisturizer more often, but don’t forget your diet plays an important part in your skincare routine, too.  Foods in season in winter months include cranberries, which assist cells in producing our favorite c word (collagen), kale, which is great for your source of daily vitamins that reduce redness in the skin, and pears, which are a cold-weather fruit full of fiber.  Other favorites on the list include matcha lattes, butternut squash, and radishes. All three bring nutrition and beauty benefits to the table during the winter months. i

Rub A Dub Dub (The Guardian)

Team clover is a big fan of relaxing and new wellness trends so we feel like we just (literally) hit the holy grail with this one. Gong baths, originally used throughout history as a ceremonial and healing instrument, are making a comeback into the wellness world which only seems appropriate because… [finish sentence]. The sound of a gong is extremely relaxing and now gyms are holding sessions all over the country. Even celebs are participating in this new form of healing meditation, so grab your yoga mat and check one out at a gym near you.

An Apple A Day (The Washington Post)

This year has been one of the worst cold and flu seasons we have seen in a long time, especially in California. Some healthy tips to avoid getting sick include getting the flu shot, regardless of the fact it’s said to be less effective than last years, avoid anyone who is sick at all costs, wash your hands every chance you get and do not touch your face if possible. Mistaking flu symptoms for the common cold can also be a big deal when dealing with this nasty virus. Any preventative measures are better than nothing even if they seem so small.

Pay For Play (Techcrunch)

We love to workout, but we all have days when it’s hard to get out of bed. Now there’s a serious incentive to not hit snooze... Sweatcoin is a new app that pays you to sweat. Seriously. With 2 million weekly users, the startup company tracks how many steps you take in a day and rewards you with a “sweat” value according to your movements. For every 1,000 steps tracked, the app will pay $.95 in “sweatcoins.” The coins can be used for fitness gear, workout classes, gift cards and other offers. This really changes the way people will value health and wellness.

Have a great weekend!
